About us

Mission Statement

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize their fullest potential and impacts the world through STEM awareness, access, support, and development.

Vision

SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians, and engineers.

History

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community.

The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.

I graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Rutgers University and am now a Key Account Manager at Henkel. SHPE has always held a spot in my heart and I love having the opportunity to bring our community together for fun events, engaging in personal development, and uplifting our future generations of ingenieros hispanos. In my free time you'll find me hanging out with friends and family and looking for my next cafe or matcha latte!

Hi! I’m a Controls Design Engineer at PSE&G with both undergraduate and graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering from NJIT. I joined the SHPE NJ Executive Board to give back to the community that played a pivotal role in shaping my personal and professional journey. Outside of work, I am dedicated to improving my skills as a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt, competing in my Sunday league soccer games, and spending quality time with the people who matter most to me.

I’m a Smith College graduate and I work as an engineering associate for Veolia in their Municipal Water New Business department. What motivated me to join the SHPE E-Board was the desire to increase the influence and reach of SHPE NJ’s efforts. I’d like for more individuals to experience the community and kindness that SHPE NJ has to offer! In my free time, I salsa dance, travel, play pickleball, try new foods or find new anime shows to watch.

Hola Familia! My name is Mauricio. This summer, I am working as a North America Logistics Analytics and Continuous Improvement Intern for Colgate-Palmolive. I joined the SHPE NJ E-Board because SHPE as a whole gave me so much, and I wanted to continue to support the initiatives of this organization to help our chapters throughout the state! I am looking forward to working with the E-board, as well as the other chapters across New Jersey. In my free time, I enjoy going on side quests with friends and family, as well as playing/watching sports.
